Position Summary:

Steinway & Sons is seeking a Furniture Polisher/repair person to join the northeast retail service team. Locations to service include our retail locations/ Certified Pre-owned Dept. at our factory and pianos the field.

The ideal candidate has woodworking skills, staining and finishing skills, and needs to be able to communicate effectively with customers.

Responsibilities:

• Remove all applicable furniture parts including the action and keys

• Repair, burn-in, patch and color match stains and veneer of piano case 

• Prepare pianos for showroom floors or delivery within Steinway standards 

• Perform repairs and refinishing of damaged and inoperable piano parts

• Includes various hinges, reinstallation of fallboards, keyslips and keyblocks, repair of tight or loose music desks, slides, lyre assemblies, benches and more

• Listen to customer complaints and service their needs in a professional manner

• Examine piano cases and parts for the sale of further service 

Qualifications for Successful Completion:

• Facilitate various finish and furniture repairs 

• Being versatile in all wood finishes, whether satin or high polish

• Ability to service any aspect of piano furniture repair, operation or finish 

• Perform piano repairs to Steinway standards and customer satisfaction

• Time management and communication skills

Position Summary:

This role is responsible for but not limited to planning, designing and validating manufacturing processes and Continuous Improvement initiatives, according to established engineering specifications. This role is also responsible for conducting safety training and hazardous materials reporting in compliance with OSHA regulations.

Main Responsibilities:

• Support and coordinate the lean-oriented Continuous Improvement Program at Steinway. This includes leading workshops, initiating and implementing methods changes and process improvements to reduce cycle times and cost while maintaining/improving quality. 

• Work with factory supervisors to keep production flowing and troubleshooting problems in the factory.

• Develop time standards and make recommendations for process improvement. Support the implementation of the standard cost for fabricated items in the factory. 

• Develop and maintain workstations and plant layouts.

• Support current Manufacturing system (MRP) by updating process routings and material usages. Create manufacturing reports to monitor the factory activities.

• Develop and maintain operation descriptions, job descriptions and procedure manuals. Maintain and improve documentation for new and existing methods and procedures. 

• Lead safety training for all employees and drive OSHA compliance activities

• Oversee the facility incident investigation process to ensure incidents are reported in a timely manner, investigations are conducted properly, root causes are identified, and corrective actions are tracked to closure.

• Prepares and schedules training to cover emergency procedures, workplace safety, and other relevant topics.

• Ensures that material safety data sheets are maintained and readily accessible when needed.

• Lead hazardous material reporting and compliance efforts

• Due to changing requirements, the duties and responsibilities of the position may change over time. 

Requirements

• BS degree in Industrial Engineering required and 1-3 years of equivalent work experience in a manufacturing environment; preferably in the piano industry.

• Strong organizational and interpersonal skills. 

• Strong written and verbal communication skills. 

• Ability to multi-task.

• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

• Critical thinking skills and strong initiative to suggest and implement manufacturing changes/improvements. 

• Must have experience on technical writing.

• Must have experience in generating flow diagrams, developing operation descriptions and developing procedures.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, MS Project, Visio, Jet Reports and Visual Basic.

• Must have working knowledge of Auto CAD.

Salary Description

$70,000 - $80,000

Position Summary:

Entry-level Maintenance Mechanic.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to working with a wide variety of tools and instrumentation to repair equipment breakdowns. Work in a highly efficient manner to minimize downtime effects in a production environment. Execute Preventive Maintenance Program schedules to avoid costly manufacturing interruptions.

Main Responsibilities:

• Perform all daily maintenance functions and 5S requirements (i.e. clean and sweep area)

• Train others as required

• Enter data in T&A and close work orders as required

• Perform other functions in the department as necessary

Timely Repair/Maintenance of equipment facilitating piano manufacture including but not limited to:

• Computer Numerically controlled (CNC) machining centers

• Automatic saw machines

• Sanders

• Planers & Jointers

• Table & Band Saws

• Drill Presses

• Hand tool repair: random orbital sanders and hand grinders

• Spray coating systems

• Pneumatic systems such as compressors and vacuum pumps

• Dust collection systems (interior & exterior)

• General construction facilitating plant renovations and support of company continuous improvement initiatives

Requirements

• Sound hand-to-eye coordination and dexterity to manipulate tools and equipment effectively

• Perform work in physically demanding conditions at times

• Periods of heavy lifting greater than 50lbs. is common

• Attends to housekeeping measures to ensure a safe work environment is maintained

• Assist Continuous Improvement (CI) Events by communicating with team members and building structures to specifications.
