Rock Rewind on a Steinway

 Michael Gallant

A collection of Rock hits spanning five decades in stunning original arrangements by pianist Michael Gallant.

Fearless… An alchemist/anarchist who blends jazz with gritty grunge rock, classical chops, turbo-powered passages, funky backbeats and sweet, salon-like moods.

— WNPR

Gallant, whose keyboard work, which changes dramatically in style and intensity, fits so well within each song that it takes it to a higher level.

— Folk and Acoustic Music Exchange

Fresh, invigorating, progressive - there are simply not enough positive adjectives to list here. . . Five stars.”

About the Artist

Michael Gallant is a New York-based pianist/keyboardist, composer, producer, writer, and entrepreneur. His credits include performances at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Preservation Hall, and the White House, as well as contributions to Grammy Award-winning and Grammy-nominated albums.

As the leader of the Michael Gallant Trio, he has released two critically acclaimed albums that blend elements of propulsive rock, improvisational jazz, and Romantic harmonies; his 2013 debut Completely earned four stars from DownBeat and was described by the magazine as “infections and captivating,” while AllAboutJazz dubbed him “an artist unafraid and bending the tradition.” In addition to North American touring, the Trio performs twice-monthly residency shows at the Tomi Jazz club in midtown Manhattan. With his wife, singer/songwriter Rachel Rossos, Gallant records and produces for New York indie band Aurical and has twice performed with the group to capacity audiences at Lincoln Center.

Gallant is a former Senior Editor at Keyboard magazine, where he wrote cover-story features on artists including Billy Joel, Justin Timberlake, will.i.am, Dave Brubeck, Herbie Hancock, Tori Amos, Ben Folds, Phish, and Maroon 5—many of whom he jammed with on the piano mid-interview. As founder and CEO of Gallant Music LLC, Gallant currently writes arts and music-related diplomacy content for the National Endowment for the Arts and United States embassies around the world.

In 2015, Gallant was commissioned to create improvised music for the major motion picture About Ray, starring Susan Sarandon and Elle Fanning. He has also composed soundtracks for children’s cartoon and award-winning indie film projects. Further credits include an orchestral suite for the Anti-Defamation League’s centennial anniversary video with voice over by James Earl Jones and orchestration work for Grammy-winning Indian superstar Ricky Kej.
