Inspired by a series of community theater performances in the late nineteen-teens, the iconic Hollywood Bowl was founded and built in 1922. It has been the summer home of the LA Philharmonic for nearly a century, and continues to host the greatest classical musicians and conductors of our time, as well as jazz legends and rock superstars.
Steinway & Sons has had a close relationship with the Hollywood Bowl since 1940, when Steinway first became the official piano of the venue — a title Steinway & Sons has currently held since 1985. The Bowl now has five Steinway pianos: two grands for performances, and three vertical pianos dedicated for practicing backstage with the same world-class sound.
